It’s reached the stage of winter when we’re feeling (and looking) slightly lacklustre, so we’re gravitating towards products that promise to nourish, treat and replenish tired skin and brittle locks, along with natural makeup that mimics a lit-from-within glow because let’s face it, we all need a little help sometimes!
One of our biggest concerns during the colder months is how to combat hair that’s feeling less than luxurious. As our stylist Mia points out in our Dry Hair Masterclass, central heating and excessively hot showers in winter as well as friction from scarves and coats can be bad for the hair and contribute to it feeling dry and lifeless.
To restore, detangle and hydrate those locks we’re turning to products that contain potent oil blends which are high in monounsaturated fats that protect the scalp, root and hair, like the Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque from O&M. With Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil and Macadamia Oil, this treatment provides deep nourishment for all hair types while Argan Oil also helps keep it frizz-free. The aptly named Nutter from Clean Beauty Co is another luxe hair oil containing high amounts of Vitamin E-rich Macadamia Oil, and Leonor Greyl’s pre-shampoo treatment oil L’Huile de Leonor Greyl with cold-pressed coconut kernels provides deep hydration and protects against hard water.
Chilly nights are the perfect excuse to relax in a hot bath. We’re talking candles, essential oils and that book you’ve been meaning to read since Christmas (and perhaps a generous glass of red wine too). Clean Beauty Co’s Coconut Dreaming bath soak takes bath time to the next level, providing intense nourishment for the skin and body. Made with silky coconut milk, it soothes and moisturises sensitive skin and improves elasticity. Follow up a long soak with a thick dollop of body cream massaged into slightly damp skin to lock in moisture - we love Baobab Regenerative Body Cream from Sans Ceuticals with high levels of Vitamin E, as well as omegas 3, 6 ,7 and 9.
From body to face, we recommend cleansing sensitive wind-chapped cheeks with Honest Skincare’s Nourishing Cleansing Balm formulated with a luxe blend of avocado, shea and cocoa butter. Follow with a rich moisturiser - winter deserves thick formulas that target dryness head-on - we particularly like Honest’s Calming Face Cream, a no brainer if baby-softness is what you’re after.
It’s not just dryness that crops up during cold weather. With your last beach holiday (probably) feeling like a while ago and a good helping of Vitamin D a distant memory, dull skin is a huge winter skin gripe. If that’s the case, then amping up your weekly exfoliation routine may just be the answer to a bit more brightness. Guy Morgan’s White Marble Clay Mask doubles as a satisfying scrub and the Kaolin Clay helps to draw toxins out of the skin - just what you need to get rid of dead skin cells and improve complexion.
To top it off, facial oils can be just the ticket for skin that needs a helping hand during the cold months. RMS’ Beauty Oil smells heavenly and adds a beautiful glowing sheen to the skin - great on it’s own, but just as glow-y under makeup too.
In keeping with the theme of moisture, moisture, moisture, we’ve swapped our powders for a foundation like Liquid Minerals by Jane Iredale. This serum-based foundation contains Hyaluronic Acid which can hold up to 40 times it’s own weight in water, and anti-ageing CoEnzyme Q10. It also gives the skin a radiant and dewy finish so it’s essentially our best friend right about now.
For a little colour on the lips, we love Madam Mina lipstick from Ilia - this blush-mauve colour adds a natural flush and once again the formula is super nourishing. Finish off your glow-getting routine with RMS Beauty’s rose gold Master Mixer on the high points of the cheeks, inner eye corners and cupids bow. While it may not be the same as a tropical holiday, we’re confident our tips will see you through to warmer weather. See you in June!
